about the artist
who am i?!
Hi everyone, my name is Sami Fiorella, and I am an artist.
INMYDRAWS, aka "In My Drawings," is really just me in my natural element.
My journey to becoming an artist wasn't some grand plan. In fact, for most of my life, I never even considered it.
During my last year of high school, I was dealing with a lot of anxiety. I played competitive softball for most of my childhood. I loved the game, but I never felt the sense of belonging or passion that I feel today with my art.
As I've reflected on those years, I realized something important. The players I admired most all had confidence. They walked like they belonged, spoke positively, and carried themselves with a grounded certainty. They believed in themselves.
I realized you can have talent, ability, drive, and ambition, but without a deeper reason behind what you're doing, something feels missing.
For a long time, I struggled with negative self-talk. I was my own biggest critic. Eventually I reached a breaking point and found myself asking the universe, "Why am I here?"
The answer didn't come overnight. It didn't arrive like magic.
But I found myself putting pen to paper.
I've always had a big imagination. Ever since I was a little girl, art sparked something in me. Whether it was a song, a movie, a music video, or a powerful story, creative expression always made me feel something I couldn't quite explain.
Growing up in Los Angeles played a huge role in that. LA is a city overflowing with creativity. Murals, fashion, music, entertainment, street culture, entrepreneurship, and people chasing big dreams are everywhere. Being surrounded by that environment taught me that creating something unique could be a real path in life.
Still, I felt like I needed to leave my hometown in order to grow.
During the pandemic, I moved away to attend the University of Oregon. At the time, the idea of becoming an artist had never crossed my mind, even though the signs were everywhere.
I was always drawing.
I carried sketchbooks and colored pencils everywhere. I decorated my walls with my artwork. During class I drew. After class I drew. When my best friend Jordan studied for nursing school, I sat beside her drawing. Even when I took a painting class, I found myself doodling my own designs in the back of the room.
As college became more difficult and my life took a darker turn, I began looking inward. I started questioning who I was and what I actually wanted.
That's when I realized something.
I was good at this.
Not only that, but I had a style that felt uniquely mine.
At the same time, I realized I wasn't passionate about college. I didn't enjoy feeling boxed in. I didn't enjoy following a path simply because it was expected. It felt like I was searching for purpose but couldn't quite find it.
Eventually, Jordan and I packed up and moved across the country to Fort Lauderdale.
That move changed my life.
Over the last few years, I've worked on becoming the person I wanted to be. While I knew my art had potential, I realized something was still holding me back.
Confidence.
I became obsessed with figuring out how to build it. I prayed. I researched. I read books. I worked on myself.
I started exercising consistently and discovered how much confidence comes from simply keeping promises to yourself. Even something as small as showing up to the gym for ten minutes created momentum.
I also fell in love with reading. If I could train my body, I realized I could train my mind too.
Slowly, I began becoming impressed with the person I was becoming.
In 2024 and 2025, I felt a growing urge to put myself and my art out into the world. South Florida has been incredibly inspiring. The Wynwood art scene, the mix of cultures, and the entrepreneurial energy have all pushed me closer to becoming the artist I believe I'm meant to be.
And now the real journey begins.
I still have fears. I still have doubts. I still have days where I question myself.
But I know this is my purpose.
I know I have a unique artistic voice. I know creating is what makes me feel alive. And I know my work deserves to be seen.
I don't have a huge platform, but I want to grow one because I believe art changes lives.
Art plants seeds of inspiration. It connects us to something bigger than ourselves. It adds color to our world. It reminds us that there is beauty, meaning, and possibility all around us.
My goal isn't just to create drawings.
My goal is to inspire.
If I can encourage one person to pursue their creative passion, I've done my job.
If I can help one person who feels lost find a creative outlet, I've done my job.
If I can remind one person that their unique voice matters, I've done my job.
Whether you're here because you connect with my story, enjoy my artwork, or simply like the vibes, thank you.
Your support means more than you know.
Welcome to the journey.
Now let's get out there and create.
